The Fantasia International Film Festival is heading back to theaters this year, celebrating its 26th edition with a dynamic in-person plan of screenings, workshops, and launch events running from July 14 through August three, 2022.

The full lineup of over 100 characteristic films and 200+ shorts will exist announced in late June. In the concurrently, the festival reveals a selected Second Moving ridge of titles and events.

CANADIAN TRAILBLAZER AWARD: KIER-LA JANISSE

For her ground-breaking work as an author, filmmaker, historian and curator, Fantasia presents its 2022 Canadian Trailblazer Award to Kier-La Janisse, who has shifted the paradigm of genre film soapbox and inspired a new generation of artists.

Over the last 23 years, Janisse founded the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies, The CineMuerte Film Festival (1999-2005), The Big Nail! Music-on-Film Festival (2006), Plastic Paper: Winnipeg's Festival of Blithe, Illustrated and Puppet Motion-picture show (2008-2011) and co-founded the beloved Montreal microcinema Blueish Sunshine (2010-2012). She was the head developer for the legendary Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas, from 2003-2007 and an original programmer for Fantastic Fest, among work for organizations such as The Winnipeg Movie Grouping, Pop Montreal and Monster Fest in Melbourne, Australia.

Janisse is the author of A Violent Professional: The Films of Luciano Rossi (2007) and the landmark motion-picture show memoir Firm of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films (2012). The book Globe Premiered at Fantasia in 2012 and an expanded version will launch at the festival this summer, forth with a special screening series (more below). Under the Spectacular Optical publishing banner, Janisse has co-edited critical anthologies such equally Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s (2015), Lost Girls: The Phantasmagorical Cinema of Jean Rollin (2017) and Yuletide Terror: Christmas Horror on Film and Television (2017). A SPOTLIGHT ON THE Earth OF QUEER GENRE CINEMA

HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN 10thursday Anniversary Book LAUNCH AND SCREENING SERIES

In 2012, the Fantasia Pic Festival hosted the debut of a new book that would keep to canonical status and usher in a new way of writing virtually film. Kier-La Janisse's HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN was billed as "an autobiographical topography of female neurosis in horror and exploitation films," and explored hundreds of films through a daringly personal lens. In this pioneering work, anecdotes and memories interweave with flick history, criticism, trivia and confrontational imagery to create a reflective personal history and an examination of female madness, both onscreen and off. Tim Lucas of VIDEO WATCHDOG called it "groundbreaking," postal service-punk icon Lydia Tiffin called information technology "a masterpiece," and Molly Ringwald said she "devoured this compelling, surprising, and moving volume."

To mark its 10th anniversary, Kier-La Janisse and FAB Press have reteamed to produce an expanded edition of Business firm OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN, featuring new writing on 100 more films – many of which were inspired in part past the volume itself. Coming total circle to the festival that birthed it, the expanded edition of House OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN will make its World Premiere at Fantasia.
